Billabong Occy Deluxe 2.2m Leash
In the early days of surfing riders that fell from their surfboards would quickly swim after their boards to retrieve them, before their stick hit the rocks, another surfer, or swimmer. In 1971 the best surfing accessory was created to prevent this, the surfboard leash. The surfboard leash was invented by the son of O’Neill founder Jack O’Neill, Pat O’Neill. The leash was an elasticated cord that connected the riders ankle to the surfboard to prevent the board from following the waves when the surfer wiped out.
Surfboard leashes today are no longer made of elasticated cords that overstretch and cause the surfboards to fly back towards the surfer. Surfboard leashes are now made of super strong and flexible urethane cord. The leash is connected to the rider by a padded ankle strap to ensure maximum comfort and flexibility for the surfer. The red Occy Deluxe 2.2m Billabong leash has a strong quality urethane cord that connects to a stainless double swivel. The high quality swivel on the Billabong leash helps to stop the cord from wrapping around the surfer’s ankle or interfering with the ride. The leash’s swivel connects to a padded ankle strap that has a key pocket, and provides maximum comfort around the rider’s ankle. The signature Occy Billabong leash also has a quick release Velcro rail saver. This makes it quick and easy to put the leash on and take it off the surfboard.
For shortboard riders the 2.2m Occy Deluxe Comp Billabong leash will be ideal. If you have a longboard or minimal then we suggest something longer.
