Bikinis
The modern two-piece swimsuit called the bikini was invented by the French fashion designer Jacques Heim and French engineer Louis Réard in 1946. Even though similar items of swim wear had been designed in the past, the fashion world's coverage ensured that "bikini" would become the standard term to describe modern women's swimwear. The bikini became immensely popular in the 1960s, having featured in Hollywood films such as Dr No, immortalised by Ursula Andress emerging from the sea.
