Skate Shoes
In the early 1970s the skateboarding craze hit the USA. Skateboarding took off in California, the heart of America's surfing culture. Shoe manufacturing companies such as Vans worked closely with skateboarders and began to produce cool skate shoes designed for the half pipe. With the improved grip of the waffle sole, skate tricks such as the aerial, the invert and the ollie came into their own. Skaters now needed improved foot protection to help prevent foot, ankle, and heel injuries. This came in the form of advances in the skate shoes' cupsole construction, greater support, better cushioning, and padded shoe tongues.
Skate Shoe Grip Technology
Skate companies such as Vans continue to improve the design and technology of the skate shoe. Vans' latest development, boardfeel, continues to mimic the original Vans vulcanised grip and further improves the skate shoe's support and cushioning with an advanced cupsole construction. This is achieved by combining lasting, tuned rubber compounds and thinner cupsoles with superior cushioning materials.
