Since the 70s surfers and water sports enthusiasts craved for a watch that they could wear surfing, coping with the harsh conditions of the pounding sea's waves. In 1989, Rip Curl began to produce high quality surfing watches that established them as market leader in making timepieces on the waves. In 1991 Rip Curl launched the first surfer's tide watch, the Rip Curl Automatic Tide Watch (ATS). This watch enabled the surfer to easily see the tide position based upon the spring-neap cycle, the moon phase and initial tide position of the appropriate break. Needless to say that the ATS watch became a huge success and continues to sell as a very popular surfer's watch.

Rip Curl continue to produce stylish superior surf watches that are reliable, waterproof and shock resistant, with the latest tide technology and surf functions. Every Rip Curl watch is waterproof tested with the best Swiss pressure testing equipment, with each watch tested to 100 or 200 metres. Each Rip Curl watch has a marine grade stainless steel case, and all Rip Curl tide watches have Swiss-made jewel movements. Rip Curl watches also carry a five year warranty on movements, a two year warranty on remaining waterproof, and a one year warranty on the watches battery from the date of purchase.
