Belts were traditionally made of a flexible band of leather or heavy cloth, and given the simply task of holding up skirts and trousers (or pants - as they're known in the US and Oz).
Material & Buckle Belts
In the modern era belts are made of leather, mock leather (PVC, etc), and nylon webbing, and belt buckles are made of metal. Belt designs have been heavily influenced by fashion and may be branded, or feature colourful designs to compliment the clothing you are wearing. Belt buckles designs may range from metal skull buckles or floral buckles to branded buckles. The clasp of the buckle design may also vary, perhaps for visual purposes or because the material used to manufacture the belt requires it.
