In 1984 the two Argentian brothers, Santiago Aguerre and Fernando Aguerre, were inspired by their love of the Californian surfing lifestyle and their passion for surfing and created the surf company Reef. With hard work, dedication and great beach lifestyle marketing from the Aguerre brothers, Reef became highly successful selling high quality active lifestyle sandals. Reef blends the cool and casual surf lifestyle with sensuality and fashion to create vibrant surf clothing, and stylish, high quality sandals that are extremely comfortable.
Iconic Miss Reef
Reef had a highly successful product but Santiago and Fernando wanted to separate themselves from other surf companies producing surf clothing and sandals (slaps, flip flops, thongs etc). Inspired by the beautiful women on the South American beaches, Reef introduced the surfing world to an exotic beach element they called Miss Reef. Using the sexy bikini clad curves of Miss Reef, and never revealing her face or identity, she is now a global icon of the surfing world, with Miss Reef appearing on Reef sandals and surf clothing, such as T-Shirts and even boardshorts.
Mick Fanning & Reef Partnership
In recent years Reef designed and produced the Fanning, named so after Mick Fanning's signature sandal footwear, a thong sandal (a strap between your toes) with an air cushion, and a foot bed that is soft, comfortable and durable. However, the Fanning's unique selling point was the bottle opener built into the sole of the sandal. The Fanning was a huge success, further establishing Reef as one of the best sandal companies in the world.

Reef also sponsors some of the best surfers in the world, including the WCT's rookie surfing phenomenon Bobby Martinez from Santa Barbara in the USA, the Coolie kid with lightening quick razor sharp turns, Mick Fanning, possibly the most stylish surfer in the world Rob Machado, as well as top wakeboarders JD Webb and Scott Byerly.
