The Australian surfer Dare Jennings founded Mambo in 1982. Jennings chose the name Mambo, as he did not want the clothing he designed to be just for surfers, and he liked the wider connotations of the word Mambo, such as music, art and politics. Mambo began by producing baggy T-shirts and boardshorts with artistic prints and lots of humour.
Artistic Surf Shirts
Mambo continued to grow and with T-shirt and shirt prints from famous artists including Gerry Wedd, Reg Mombassa, Robert Moore, Beci Orpin, Jodi Barcon and Matthew Martin, Mambo went from strength to strength. Mambo T-shirt and shirt prints such as the Surfing Jesus, designed by Reg Mombassa, and the farting dogs design from Richard Allen, became a huge success and frequently seen at the beach, the pub, or at the barbie.
Unique Shirt Messages
Mambo sponsors homegrown surfers from grommets and university students, to pro-surfers such as the WCT Australian surfer Luke Stedman, and big wave charger Kerby Brown. Mambo is an Australian surf and street wear company who produce surf clothing blended with fashion, and frequently with a political, religious, humorous, and thought-provoking message.
