Californian Matt Biolos and a bunch of school friends first founded the Lost name in 1985. 'Team Lost' was the name given to the group of guys that would surf the breaks at Dana Point in California, snowboard on the slopes of Mount Baldy, and skate at the gnarly skateboard park Pipeline in Upland, California. To this bunch of young board riders it wasn't about competing in the surfing competitions, it was about the rush and enjoying life to the full.
Historic Mayhem Board
In 1987 Matt Biolos was fresh out of high school and sanding surfboards. One of the first surfboards he made was duly christened 'Mayhem' however the name quickly stuck and Matt began to produce his own line of Mayhem surfboards. The Mayhem surfboards hadn't taken off yet, so Matt was still sanding boards and giving them cool painted designs along with a handwritten 'LOST' emblem.
Surfer Gear Artwork
Matt's boards and designs grew in popularity and in 1992 Matt and his friend Mike Reola created the surf clothing brand Lost Enterprises. The T-Shirts they produced featured Matt's art with the Lost logo. The popularity of the Mayhem boards helped to launch the brand and by the mid 90s Lost was making T-Shirts, shorts, boardshorts, pants, hats, jackets, and light snowboard outerwear. Lost continues to support and sponsor skateboarders, surfers and snowboarders, as well as various boarding and music events. Lost are particularly proud of their pro rider Chris Ward from San Clamente, and rightly so. Chris Ward was sponsored by Lost from the age of 15, and they have helped to nurture Chris into a fantastic WCT pro that continues to break the mould with his amazing aerials and futuristic wave riding.
California Beach Clothes
Lost has always been a surf brand that has remained core to the Californian surf culture, and also has a close relationship with its music and art. This season watch out for the Lost boardshorts and T-Shirts which feature fantastic chick and skull prints.
If the devil was to be a surfer, he'd wear Lost gear for sure. Party on and party hard!
