The surf brand DaKine was created by American Rob Kaplan when in 1979 he started making surf leashes in Haiku, on the island of Maui in Hawaii. The DaKine surfboard leash was designed and manufactured to withstand the rigorous surfing conditions of Hawaii. There is no doubt that the surfboard leash helped to open up previously unsurfed breaks all around the world. Keeping the surfer and his surfboard in close proximity when he wipes out.
Since then Dakine has moved on to produce top specification harnesses for water sports such as windsurfing and kitesurfing. Dakine also design and manufacture extremely high quality luggage for surfers and water sports enthusiasts, and also backpacks and rucksacks for other demanding sports such as mountain biking. DaKine also have a great range of rashvests and surf clothing.
